RECREATIONAL AMENITIES

We will provide high-quality parks to residents and visitors

Focus efforts on maintenance with strategic expansion of the parks system

  • Develop a parks and recreation plan

    • Prioritize a high quality maintenance strategy for Hamilton’s parks

    • Make strategic investments throughout the park system that have the most impact

    • Maximize the potential of Joyce Park

    • Implement the Combs Park master plan

  • Evaluate other possible capital improvements in Hamilton Parks

  • Work to enhance the river as a form of recreation, encouraging activity such as kayaking

  • Value passive parkland, such as nature preserves

  • Explore the feasibility of building an aquatics center for the community

  • Partner with both the Hamilton Parks Conservancy and Butler County MetroParks to expand and improve parks in our community

  • Continue investing in bike trails as an important recreational amenity

Improve access to, and programming of, parks

  • Identify areas with limited access to parks and create new parks

  • Develop more programming and activities for residents

    • Recognize that tweens and teens are especially in need of activities and add amenities they are interested in, such as basketball and volleyball courts, study areas, and other park activities

    • Focus programming for adults on social activities, placemaking, and community building

    • Seek ways to expand recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities and for senior citizens

WE WILL ENSURE THAT HAMILTON OFFERS FAMILY-FRIENDLY RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, ESPECIALLY ONES THAT PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR CHILDREN

  • Promote family-friendly businesses and activities in our community

  • Support efforts to connect older children and teenagers to existing recreational activities and to create new ones, recognizing that transportation and cost are challenges that must be addressed

  • Continue to expand recreational amenities, both public and private, along the Great Miami River and in the urban core

  • Value organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club, HYPE, and the YMCA who provide quality programming for children in our community
